OBSESSION: DJ Amir

For more than 30 years, Amir has been digging, collecting, DJing and keeping important music in circulation.

His story runs through Fat Beats, Wax Poetics, BBE Music, Kon & Amir and 180 Proof Records, always somewhere between discovery, independent culture and preservation.

A big part of that has been his work with the Strata Records catalogue, helping bring an important part of Detroit’s jazz history back into public life.

On September 23, Amir joins us downstairs at CUE for an Obsession around spiritual jazz, sharing records and stories around freedom, healing, resistance and transformation.

A few stories, a lot of listening, and plenty of space for the records to speak for themselves.
